DIY Baby Room: Make an Adorable Moonlight “I Love You” Nightlight Canvas

Today, I’m showing you how you can make this adorable I Love You to the moon and back lighted canvas.

It makes the perfect night light in your little one’s room! You can use it on an easel or hang it on the wall.

We always have visions of what we would like the baby’s room to look like.

However, there are a lot of times where the stores do not carry what we want for room décor.

If you’re looking for a different image, you can easily change the picture to make it fit your theme of any baby’s room.

This canvas nightlight is an extremely versatile DIY project. So, if you’re doing a different theme you can still use the steps to create your theme.

TIP: This project can be a little messy so I used a plastic drop cloth so that I could contain the drips onto the drop cloth only.

When I do these projects I like to work on the floor or outdoors so I have plenty of space to have everything that I need within reach.

I have it set up this way because as some of the project is drying I can work on other aspects of the project and still know when it’s dry and ready for the next step.

It really just makes the process go faster, and I don’t have to get up and run for things I need all the time.

Let’s get started on our I Love You To The Moon And Back Lighted Canvas!

Materials (affiliate links):

Step 1: Get your materials together and place your plastic drop cloth down.

Be sure that the area you choose to work in will allow you to move around freely.

Step 2: Start to paint your canvas. Use a foam brush and move in an up and down strokes.

This will help it dry in smooth strokes, and it will look a better then if you just use strokes in different directions.

You will need to add 2-3 coats of paint as the canvas does absorb the paint.

Step 3: While your paint is drying and add more coats of paint, you can trace and cut out the letters and pictures you want to use for the canvas.

I found a moon and stars picture on images on google and printed them out.

You do want to make sure that the photo you use is not copyright. I used a stencil for the letters to trace and then cut them out.

Step 4: Use your ruler now and line up all the pictures and letters where you want them on your canvas.

Once you have the pieces just where you want them, you will put a light layer of Modge Podge on each piece and make sure they are lined up before placing them.

Then finish each piece till they are all placed and have dried.

Step 5: Congrats! Your canvas is starting to look great, but we are not done yet!

This step you will protect your canvas from dust and fingerprints as well as give it a beautiful shine.

You will now take your foam brush and add a thick layer of Modge Podge to the canvas and let it dry so that it will protect your hard work.

Step 6: You will now use your pen to poke holes into the canvas. light pressure is needed for this portion of the project.

If you put to much pressure on the pen you will make larger holes.

If you happen to make a few larger holes don’t panic it happens to everyone and it will still be beautiful when your finished.

Step 7: It is time for you to add the small cup hooks to the inside of your canvas.

These will be used to hold the Christmas lights in place. I added 6-8 to mine depending where I had lights with a mind of their own.

It makes the lights easier to stay in place and for you to change the bulbs or strand of lights.

Start with the hook facing you and end with the hook facing away from you.

Step 8: When adding the strands of lights, you will want the plug to be at the bottom of the canvas.

So on the far right or left side — which ever will work for your plugs place the plug for the canvas.

Now take the rest of the lights and place them into the cup hooks to be placed so that they will be held into place.

Your canvas is now finished and you can place a cardboard back onto your canvas is you would like to but be sure that it is removable.

Another idea is you could also use a photo frame backing with the sliding arms to hold it in place.

I hope you enjoyed this project and have fun creating your own lighted canvas.
