10 Ways to Save on Amazon.com

Many of us choose to do our shopping online at Amazon.com as a way to save both time and money. However, you might not be aware that there are many ways to save even more money at Amazon.com, if you know where to look! It won’t take you long to find these bargains, and they could save you lots of money!

Here are 10 ways to find those Amazon.com bargains:

1) Check Out the Amazon Gold Box Page

Many shoppers miss the fact that there’s a link to “Today’s Deals” right at the top of the Amazon.com homepage! It’s well worth clicking that link, though, because there are a number of hot deals there that don’t last long.

When you click that link, you’ll be taken to today’s “lightning deals” page.

Lightning Deals on Amazon

This is where you’ll see offers that really don’t last long. There are also limited numbers of discounted products available, so if you want one you’d better buy it quick!

These deals can be a lot bigger than long running deals, but harder to get since you’ll need to login and keep an eye on the new deals every day.

2) Find the Amazon.com Goldbox Deals & Bargains Page

Amazon has a number of special offer pages. The Goldbox Deals & Bargains page is where you’ll find longer term offers on various categories of products (as opposed to lightning deals which are very short-lived).

It’s always worth taking a look at the Deals & Bargains page before you start shopping, just in case there are some offers on that you can use!

Visit the Goldbox Deals & Bargains page here.

Tip #3: Don't pay more for shipping than you have to on Amazon.com!

3) Don’t Pay More for Shipping Than You Have To!

One of the major drawbacks of using the internet for your shopping is the fact that you need to pay for shipping! Thankfully Amazon has a few ways around this. They are well worth looking into if you regularly shop there – the savings really will add up.

image005

Amazon Super Saver Shipping: This is the easiest way to save money on your shipping cost. All it requires is that you spend $35 or more in one order, or eligible products.

Most products on Amazon are eligible – they are the products sold either directly by Amazon, or by third party sellers who use the “fulfilled” by Amazon service. Amazon makes it pretty clear while you’re shopping which items are included – you’ll see the “FREE Shipping” logo on the product page next to the price.

When you pay for shipping, you’ll get a few choices. You can choose to pay more for quicker shipping times. When you get your shipping for free, this is the slowest shipping speed option. This just means you’ll need to factor in shipping time and do your shopping in advance if you want to get it for free!

Amazon Prime: For people who regularly shop on Amazon, Prime is definitely the best option. It isn’t free but the savings will make it very worthwhile. See below for more information on this service.

4) Sign Up to Amazon Prime

image006

Amazon Prime is a service that comes with a number of benefits for regular users of Amazon.com. It costs $79 per year, which might sound like a lot. However, it’s actually a real bargain if you use it regularly!

Fast, FREE Shipping

Amazon Prime will give you free two-day shipping on any item sold by Amazon or fulfilled by Amazon. That means a large majority of all the products on the site. Unlike the free Super Saver Delivery option, you don’t even have to order a minimum of $35 worth of products. Since two-day shipping can cost $5-$10 every time, it probably won’t take long for you to make your $79 fee back!

Additional Benefits

In addition to the shipping benefits you’ll also get access to thousands of movies and TV shows hosted on Amazon’s Prime Instant Video service. This is a service like Netflix, and you can watch it on your computer or your tablet computer. You don’t have to own a Kindle to use it.

You’ll also get one free Kindle book to borrow each month. Again, you can read this on your computer, smartphone or tablet and don’t need a Kindle to read it. These additional benefits often seal the deal for many people on the fence about Amazon Prime.

Get One Month Free!

If you haven’t ever used Amazon Prime before then you can sign up to get one month free! It’s especially useful to take advantage of this special offer during the Christmas season when you’ll be doing a lot of shopping!

When you login to Amazon, just look for the “Try Prime” link as shown in the screenshot above. Just be sure to cancel before the trial is over if you don’t want to be charged for the full membership.

5) Use the Subscribe and Save Feature

If you regularly order the same items from Amazon then you can use the Subscribe & Save program to get a discount on that item. You’ll have to commit to ordering the item at a set interval of your choice e.g. every 2 months. Just look out for an option like the one above on products that are included.

Subscribe & Save is available for a number of products including cosmetics, toilet paper, toiletries, baby products, groceries and so on. Basically the types of things you’ll need on a regular basis.

If you’re afraid about committing yourself for a long period of time, don’t be. Once you sign up to Subscribe & Save it’s easy to cancel it. You aren’t locked in to any set number of orders, and you won’t be charged again once you cancel. This is great news for savvy shoppers who only want the item once. Simply sign up to subscribe and save for 1 delivery only before canceling straight away!

6) Buy From Third Party Sellers (Sometimes)

image008

One of the best things about Amazon is that third party sellers can also use the site to sell new or used versions of items. This is a great place to pick up bargains!

Amazon.com aren’t always the cheapest, so it’s always worth checking out third party sellers to see if you can save. You can browse these options using the link shown above on any product page.

However, it’s important to note that many third party sellers will charge for shipping, and these items are NOT included in either Amazon Prime or Super Saver Delivery. This means you need to take the cost of shipping into account when choosing the best value item.

It’s also important to note whether the items are new or second hand. Obviously, second hand items should generally cost a lot less than new items!

You might be nervous about buying items from third party sellers instead of Amazon. The good news is that, should you have any problems, you can get in touch directly with Amazon who will sort it out for you.

7) Be Prepared for Big Sales

image009

We’ve already talked about the Lightning Deals page. Now it’s time to think about when you’re going to get the best deals. Yes, there are products on offer all year round. However, to get the best bargains you’ll want to be prepared for the big shopping days. Specifically, this means being ready to login and shop on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) and the next few days following that, plus after Christmas when many prices come down.

In the days running up to these big sales, you can do some online searching to see what you can find out about which items will be on sale. Then, when the day comes around, keep checking the Lightning Deals page and be ready to buy quickly. These items sell out fast!

8) Shop From the Amazon Outlet

image010

Did you know that there’s an Amazon Outlet section of Amazon.com? Most people don’t even know that it’s there!

The outlet store is perfect for a whole range of products, especially if you don’t have a specific model in mind. You can browse there to find items discounted by as much as 75%!

There are a huge number of categories included on the outlet store: clothing, electronics, books, movies, toys, home and kitchen products and much more!

These products are all new but sold at a discount. It’s well worth checking the outlet to find some bargains!

Visit the Amazon Outlet here.

9) View All Amazon.com Coupons in One Place

Yes, you can even clip coupons for Amazon.com! Except this time they’re digital coupons. And, thankfully, Amazon.com has its own page where you can view all of the active coupon codes.

image011

The coupon page breaks all the current coupons up into categories, so it won’t take more than a minute to check if an item you want is included. Well worth doing!

10) Shop in the Amazon Warehouse

In addition to the Outlet store, Amazon also has its Warehouse Deals. Amazon describe these as “great deals on returned, warehouse-damaged, used, or refurbished products that are in good condition but do not meet Amazon.com rigorous standards as ‘new.’ We also offer products in new and open-box condition.”

This is another great way to score a bargain! These products can’t be sold as new, and they don’t come with a manufacturer’s warranty, but Amazon’s A-to-Z Guarantee covers them all.

  1. I used to make fun of Amazon Prime – “I’m going to *pay* to get *free* shipping?!” – but I signed up and I love it. When I want to order something for $5, I can get it from Amazon for no shipping. I just love it!

    1. Best decision I ever made. We made the jump at Christmastime because the shipping to my nieces and nephews was so much. But then I found how much I used it… and the time I saved (not to mention gas money) in just ordering and having it delivered.

  2. Hi there Jenny! I love me some Amazon Prime. Just the free two day shipping has been worth the annual membership fee, let alone the instant video streaming and receiving a free Kindle ebook every now and then. Now they have free same day shipping if you order it before a certain time! Woohooo! I had no idea they had Amazon Outlet and Warehouse! You bet your sweet butt I’ll be heading over there at some point to check out the fierce deals. Great post, Jenny! Consider it pinned:-)

    1. LOL! The outlet is so hidden.. I don’t know why. And when we signed up for Prime, I didn’t think I would use the video or music streaming. Boy was I wrong!

  3. Great ideas. never tried the subscribe and save or the coupons there yet.

  4. I love Amazon Prime. I use it all the time because it seems I always want something delivered in two days.
    Great post.
